Staff at Mount Regis Center, Salem, Virginia
Our facility feels more like home, not like a hospital. The doors are not locked and you have freedom to go outside on the grounds, or on our back deck during free time. We are located in a residential neighborhood and have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. We can accommodate 25 patients in our house at one time. Being small, we feel you get more individual attention and have access to all staff members.
Mount Regis Center is rich with history. The main part of the house was originally built in 1890 as a local physician’s mansion. At that time, it was the only structure on the hill, which is called “Mount Regis.” Before the physician could move in, tuberculosis was ravaging the country. The physician decided to turn his house into a tuberculosis sanatorium. In 1947, the facility was converted into an alcohol addiction rehab and was named “White Cross.” Years later, they began treating addiction to drugs, as well, and the name changed to “Mount Regis Center.”
