Learn more about synthetic marijuana abuse treatment at Mount Regis Center in Salem, VA

Synthetic marijuana, also known as K2 or spice, is a synthetic cannabis that is made in a laboratory and is quickly gaining popularity among drug abusers. While it is used the same way as traditional marijuana or pot, it is more dangerous than the natural drug because the active ingredient binds more strongly to cannabis receptors in the brain. The labels that distributors place on these products often claim that the substance contains “natural” psychoactive materials taken from variety of different plants. However, along with the natural origins of the dried plant material used to create the substance exists synthetic compounds composed of toxic chemicals. These chemicals, which are the active ingredients that allow individuals to experience the “high” of the drug, can be life-threatening.

Synthetic pot has been shown to bring about severe adverse reactions, including death and acute renal failure. It has also been known to cause paranoia, agitation, irritability, confusions, seizures, and loss of consciousness. However, since this drug is fairly new the long-term effects and health risks are not fully known.

We make it our priority to get to know each patient on a personal level learning each person’s unique capabilities, strengths, personality, and preferences. Types of Therapy

Types of therapy used to treat synthetic marijuana abuse at Mount Regis Center in Salem, VA

The recovery programs at our addiction rehab center offers holistic methods that focus on the whole individual. Our inpatient and extended stay programs provide the individual the ideal environment to begin the recovery process, but providing a safe place away from the stressors of the outside world. By allowing individuals the time to escape from demanding responsibilities and environmental stress they are able to place all of their energy into healing. Some of the therapeutic methods we offer include:

Group Therapy- The main treatment approach we use is small group therapy. By talking to others who are going through similar experiences about your addiction to synthetic pot you will realize there are others going through the same journey. Through sharing experiences with each other you will gain support and learn how to heal together.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – CBT is used to help individuals identify any misconceptions or negative thoughts they hold they may have impacted their decision to use drugs. This therapy will help you to evaluate these feelings and patterns in your thinking so that you can learn more adaptive ways of thinking. Once you have been able to change theses negative thought patterns and the associated feelings you will be able to alter your behaviors for the better.

Rational Emotive Therapy (REBT) – REBT focuses on balancing acceptance, tolerance, and changing thoughts and beliefs. REBT helps individuals learn how to express their feelings and then accept that what has happened is in the past allowing them to move on. Finally, REBT teaches strategies to use in order to better tolerate all of their overwhelming emotions.

Family therapy– We take the time to work with families, providing them with information about their loved ones addiction and the treatment process. Through family therapy we help you and your loved ones process issues and emotions that have come about as a result of your problems with drugs.

Individual Therapy – Our program is mainly based around small groups, however we recognize there are times individuals may need to explore issues in a more private setting. Our trained counselors may deem it necessary to provide individual counseling for specific individuals to help them process specific difficulties that are raised in group sessions.

In addition to traditional therapeutic approaches, we offer a number of experiential options. These options include:

  • Recreational programming
  • Art programming
  • Yoga program
  • Spiritual Therapy
  • Nutritional Counseling

Rehab Aftercare

Continuing care, what comes next?

The staff at our addiction rehab center is committed to helping you to improve your quality of life not only during your stay, but once you are ready to leave our recovery center. We want to help you maintain all the progress you have made in your recovery while you work to re-establish your life back in your own community.

Once it has been determined that you no longer need the intense level of care of our program we will work with you to help decide the next appropriate step for treatment. We offer several levels of care that you can transfer into depending on your specific needs at the time. The day treatment program we offer is another intensive program, but it allows you the opportunity to spend nights at home with your family. If you would rather stay closer to our center we do have several apartments available for use during your rehab program. Our intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is another option that many patients find effective. This program is not as intense as some of our other programs, but offers more support than traditional outpatient therapy.

We also offer an Aftercare Program which is open to Mt. Regis alumni free of charge for three months post-discharge. This program is designed to help you to continue to be successful with your recovery and provided support to prevent relapse. The aftercare program offers both group and individual therapy that helps individuals process through issues that may have arisen since being discharged.

It was time for me to go to Treatment. I had tried everything and I just couldn't stop drinking. Mt. Regis was what I needed. A safe place with excellent counselors and a rigorous program. This place works if you work it. I received a great deal of information about my problem and solid support to begin a plan of action. I hope to stay involved there and give back
